Spotlight on what’s new at Much Hadham Village Hall: this week we’re featuring a brand new amateur radio club for Herts & Essex operating under the club call sign GX3OMG.
We spoke to Ed from the GX30MG team to find out more.
What is the name of your club or group?
Amateur radio is a popular technical hobby that allows licensed operators to communicate globally, build equipment, and experiment with wireless technology. We are a newly formed group of enthusiasts who love to operate Special Event Stations, particularly outdoors from local areas of interest. You might have seen us recently at Much Hadham Forge Museum
Who is your group for?
We welcome everyone to join us - we would love to have members of all license levels and experience, as well as shortwave listeners (non-licensed enthusiasts).
When and where do you usually meet at Much Hadham Village Hall?
We meet in the Green Room on the last Tuesday of each month and use these sessions for guest speakers, equipment testing and special event station planning. We also get on the air and give members a chance to use the club call sign GX3OMG to make DX contacts.
How long has your club/society been running, and how long have you been at the Village Hall?
We are brand new - but have bags of experience and recognised a gap in the area for a club that loves to operate special event stations. We discovered the village hall when we operated our special call sign GB0MHF for Museums on the Air from the forge museum opposite and were introduced by local Much Hadham Amateur Radio operator John G0KTW. We started meeting at the hall in July 2026.
What can someone expect if they come along for the first time?
Our club nights are only part of what we do, but we do, of course, welcome visitors, especially local residents who may have an interest in joining the club. Visitors may drop in up to 3 times before we ask that they become club members
Do people need to book in advance, or can they just turn up?
If you would like to visit as a non-member, you can email us or drop us a note on the Contact Us page on our website - just to make sure we have enough tea bags!
Is there a membership fee or session cost?
Club nights for members is £3.00 to cover the cost of the hall hire and refreshments.

What do your members say they enjoy most about being part of your group?
There’s lots to do, but most members enjoy a mixture of social meetings, experimenting, learning and operating radio. Our calendar of events outlines the activities we have planned for this year - most are linked to international radio events so lots of contacts are guaranteed. Of course we love to share our experience, so if you are new to Amateur Radio, HEARS is the place to come and try it out.
Are there any upcoming events, performances, matches, open days or taster sessions you’d like us to mention?
Upcoming for the rest of this year we are operating a number of Special Event Stations for “On the Air” activities all based locally in Herts & Essex including:
